Grey is all around. The ubiquitous 90’s beige left its throne to grey a (too) long while ago and it has swept our interiors like a perfect storm. I get it, grey is versatile. It goes with anything and everything and hides stains pretty well. I get all that, and actually, I even own some grey pieces. The thing is that this whole trend really got out of hand! It’s a bit ridiculous actually. Decors grey from floor to ceiling are invading every nook and cranny of my social media feeds and I have visited so many families who have gone all out on the grey train and are now realizing that they don’t know how to tone it down.
I’ve discussed colour psychology before but maybe I’ll go ahead with a little refresher course. Every colour on the spectrum stimulates and generates certain emotions within us. Red isn’t great in a hyper active child’s room for example, but it is also the colour of passion and strength, and blue is the colour of serenity, security, trust and loyalty. Green is the colour of health, hope, freshness, and nature. Grey on the other hand, and despite being the timeless, neutral and reliable, is the colour of depression, blandness, lack of energy, and city smog and “slush”. So, when it comes to colour, it’s all about balance.
This home shows a great way out of an all grey decor to one that injects a fair amount of colour for effect and uplifting of the spirit. Yay to that! With green & greens the decor is lively, lovely and timeless too. This, in turn, helps to bring the eye to focus on architectural details, to see the delimitation between where the room ends and another begin rather than being drowned in a greyish sea. The gold coloured accents, fixtures and mirrors are a very nice touch which warms the palette and adds sophistication.
